Surgeons from the University of Southern California for the first time reported a link between the operation to install textured implants in the buttocks and the development of anaplastic large cell lymphoma. They claim that they were approached by a middle-aged patient who had undergone plastic surgery a year ago. During this time, tumors have formed in her lungs, writes Lenta.ru.
“Unfortunately, her condition worsened before we found out the cause of the disease,” the scientists said.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has previously reported 457 cases of development of the disease after the installation of breast implants. Nine of them ended in the death of patients.
The president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Alan Matarasso, was not surprised that the symptoms recurred in patients with buttock implants.
“It's not about localization, but about the type of implant and the time since the operation. The presence of inflammation and genetic predisposition are the main risk factors, ”he said.
Matarasso added that textured implants are used to increase the buttocks less and less, and customers prefer the Brazilian tightening - moving fat from the abdomen, back and hips to the buttocks.
