A resident of Illinois was charged with the death of her daughter after the police found out: the woman knew about the girl's medical diagnosis and prevented her treatment.
39-year-old Amber Hampshire from Alton City in southern Illinois was accused of manslaughter after the death of her 14-year-old daughter Emily, writes NBC News.
The investigation revealed that the mother “was fully aware of Emily’s diabetic status, but took steps to hide the girl’s diabetes and could not provide her with proper treatment and medication, leading to death from diabetic ketoacidosis,” the district prosecutor’s press release said.
In 2013, the girl was diagnosed with diabetes. In November of this year, she ended up in a hospital, where doctors did not know about the diagnosis until her death.
Emily was hospitalized on November 1 2018 of the year. Arriving on call, doctors found that the girl is unconscious and does not breathe. She was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to a hospital in St. Louis, where she died two days later.
The girl's mother told the doctors that her daughter had previously been hospitalized due to pneumonia. Later it turned out that at that time Emily had very high blood sugar levels, but she was not prescribed insulin.
