Americans do not walk: myth or reality?

It is time to debunk the next myth! Although today my opinion will be ambiguous.
Myth: These lazy Americans do not walk. ALL.
Reality: It would be foolish to boil it down to the fact that Americans are lazy. Driving is a must in the states.
America is still not a tiny European country. My SEP, for example, works in one city, and lives in another, in 100 km from the office. And the parents in my host family, living in Brighton, worked alone in Detroit (45 minutes from home), the second in Ann Arbor (25 minutes from home).
Moreover, in small towns the situation with public transport is very problematic (for example, in Ukraine public transport is much more developed), therefore it is more convenient to move around the city on your own car.
But of course, there are exceptions. I remember a few years ago in Michigan there was a scandal when people called the animal rights service because they saw a woman walking her dog along the way while sitting in a car. If I remember correctly, the animal was taken away from her.
Here is really a little lazy lady!
And I myself am no better: when I arrive at the big mall for shopping, I sometimes do this: I park at one entrance, explore this part of the shopping center, then move to the next entrance, and go shopping there). This is also from laziness). Although it is rare.
