'America is not heaven': a Kazakh woman spoke about the mistakes of immigrants in the USA

Many see America as a magical country, where dollars grow on trees, and instead of water in the oceans flows kissel. It seems that in this country all the cherished wishes of the people are fulfilled, and the people are completely free and happy.
Much can be said about the “ideal” American society, but the American reality is different from the stereotypes. ZTB.kz invites you to look at life in the United States from the inside through the eyes of someone who has been living in the "country of immigrants" for five years.
Kazakhstani Galiya Iskakova is 30 years old, she is from Almaty. At one time, the girl received a higher education in management at the International Academy of Business. For the first time I found myself in the USA thanks to the well-known Work and travel program.
“After that, I returned to Kazakhstan and built a career as a project manager, opened restaurants, boutiques for companies and investors. My life has always been active. I love all kinds of sports and dancing. ”
Finally, the girl left for America almost 5 years ago. Galia had the opportunity to start a project in Miami.
“I was offered to try my hand at being a project manager. I went through three stages of the interview and heard the cherished: "Pack your bags." Well, then America has always been a plan “B” for life, and that's how it turned out, as I, apparently, wished in the depths of my soul. "
According to the Kazakhstani, the United States has a different culture, a different rhythm of life, a different style of behavior and worldview.
“America is a land of opportunity, where it doesn't matter if there are connections or not. If you have brains and a desire to be successful, then you can achieve almost any heights. But you need to take into account that everyone is here on his own, but everyone has their own goals and they strive for them. No one helps anyone, no one waits for anyone. If you want to achieve something, you can only rely on yourself.
Each state and people in it are radically different from each other. America is not heaven on Earth, as everyone thinks, there are many pros and cons. And for newcomers, almost everything should start from scratch and learn every day and every hour everything around with an open heart and head ”.
Galia lives in Miami and is currently engaged in the transition from big business to a more creative course.
“I teach dance, complete a business plan for my own big dance school, pick up premises, run free dance classes in Miami's best parks as part of my We dance Miami project, do charity work, and study a holistic lifestyle.
At the same time, I am developing myself. My main goal in life is to help people learn to love themselves through self-expression in dance, do only what they love, listen to their heart, their body (very important for women), respect themselves and understand their destiny ”.
Galia notes that starting a business in the United States is as difficult as it is in Kazakhstan.
“I have not met anyone here willing to help young businessmen. Yes, it is easier to find investors in the United States if projects are interesting and competently calculated and presented. So visitors help each other most often. Well, you need to be careful with this. You have to rely only on yourself, this is one of the processes of growing up and adaptation ”.
She believes that recently more and more Kazakhstanis have left for the United States because of the prevailing wrong stereotypes about life in America.
“It's very sad, but yes - it is. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it so happened that there is a lot of information on the Internet, in social networks about the "stereotypically beautiful life in the States." For young people it is like a magnet from the series “the grass is greener at the neighbor's side”, while abroad, apparently, it is even “greener”. However, these are just my guesses. "
“It seems to the majority that everything is easy, simple and beautiful here. But this is not the case. Wherever you are, you have to work hard, set goals, overcome yourself. Personally, I left because I was more comfortable here. When I came and lived as a student, I felt freer and happier in this country ”.
The girl admits that she loves Kazakhstan, but does not plan to return.
“Probably, it will not sound very patriotic, but I left so as not to return. There is nothing special to justify here, I feel good here. But I love and respect my country and everything that it has given me for my new life. "
For those who are going to go to live in the USA, Galia advises to know the language well and not to be in the clouds, as well as to clearly understand their plans, goals and opportunities.
“If you are going for a miracle, then remember: this is just a different country, but you are the same, and wherever you go, everywhere you take yourself there. And here everything else is many times more complicated. Understand your motives. If in doubt, read more information. If you believe in yourself and know where you are going, then the main advice: after choosing a goal, do not give up! All will be!"
